Job Description
The Field National Environmental Health (EH) Officer staff will work under the direction of the Head of Field Office and closely collaborate with the WHO Environmental Health Coordinator to assist the MOH for environmental health in the field office catchments areas. The National EH will be supervised by the Environmental Health Coordinator. The national EH officer should brief the Head of Field Office and discuss the plans and actions and implement the recommendations of the EH-Coordinator. The EH-Offcier should fulfill the following tasks;
I. Emergency Response
-To help in implementation of emergency response for water disinfection, water quality monitoring, human excreta disposal, garbage collection and disposal in badly affected priority areas, through the activities of WHO/MOH sponsored medical teams and WHO field offices.
-To provide technical support for the rehabilitation of water supply, water disinfection, sanitation and waste management, including medical wastes, in hospitals and large health care facilities that are providing medical care and are safe to operate.
-To train environmental field workers to be assigned to the medical teams and assist and supervise their work.
-To assist in implementation of hygiene education plan in camps, clusters of tents and households in the area.
-To assist the WATSAN cluster coordination in the field office area and provide technical advice and assistant to any partner that may need them.
-To actively respond to waterborne diseases Alerts/Outbreaks and engaged relative line departments and Agencies and prepare a detail Environmental health report of Alerts/Outbreaks including water quality tests, sanitary inspection, hygienic conditions at household level, identification of contamination source, drinking water disinfection, regular follow-ups and preparing report of follow-ups.
II. Recovery
-In collaboration with UNICEF and other partners, prepare a detailed assessment of environmental health including water supply and water quality and quantity and sanitation status in catchments areas of the medical teams and other selected areas for WHO support.
-To prepare a detailed plan and assist in implementation of WHO environmental health support for the most pressing needs, especially disinfection of water, human excreta and garbage disposal including identification of manpower need, resources and supplies and equipment needed.
-To assess the local level human resources needed and prepare and conduct the required training.
-To develop a community-based recovery plan for provision of safe drinking water supply and sanitation facilities in the affected areas.
III. Information and Reporting
-To collect the required information and data and inform the Head of Field Office and Environmental Health Coordinator in Islamabad on regular basis.
-Prepare weekly progress report as per set format.
-Undertake any other tasks given by the supervisor.
-Report immediately on any sudden/observed increase in cases of water/sanitation related diseases.
Skills Required:
Knowledge of computer systems and applications such as Microsoft office specially MS EXCEL, MS WORD and MS POWERPOINT.
- Ability for analytical, independent work in an organized manner.
- Ability to draft clearly and concisely on technical issues with creative expression.
- Training skills desirable.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Excellent communication and writing skills in English Language.
- Team player to solve professional problems/hurdles.
- Can work under pressure.
